We are now among the coronavirus pandemic crisis – a crisis which has shaken the whole world, has upset the world economy and has instilled fear and confusion among peoples' mind. So, here I am, sharing my learning with you during these tough times due to coronavirus. I couldn't help see how "Being Agile" helped us to cope better. I once read an excellent quote;
With a little modification:
I observed that people and organizations are trying to find newer ways of doing things, now that schools have officially closed. For example: My daughter's school started conducting classes for the students through video conferencing.
Result – Engaged productive and happy youngsters who are busy and worrying less. The best part is that students are collectively deciding on what to study, working together on assignments and the time schedule and taking a call on each and everything. Remember:
Another example: While, some of my known are cribbing about being locked down, some are calmly trying to make the best out of the situation. In our family too, we have taken this as an opportunity to teach children cooking our traditional food items. Since last week or so, ownership of dinner is with both of them.
My learning here, no one shirks away from their responsibility. They do what is right and what needs to be done. Just support all. Isn't this what Agile Principles say?
Agility or being Agile is all about flexibility and adapting to the changing environment. Our fourth Agile Value says:
So, instead of resisting the new living conditions imposed on us to handle the pandemic, we have heartily accepted the change and spend time playing games, being together.
Finally, due to the associated uncertainty – we are trying to keep things simple. We are cooking basic food which will get consumed rather than getting wasted. Of course,
And, in true Agile spirit, here are our observations and lessons learnt from the short retrospective on last 3 weeks.
We are in challenging times. It is entirely on us to keep our perspectives right and move forward. Make the best of the situation in hand. Let's not worry about things that we cannot control, instead, let's shift our energies on finding the positives.
Believe it or not, "Being Agile" is definitely a way of living, a way of looking at things and situations. I am hoping that together, we have a truly Agile World around us.
